The course covers:

  • Boat Handling (under sail)
  • Boat Handling (under power)
  • Boat Knowledge
  • Seamanship
  • Maintenance
  • Rules and Regulations
  • Navigation
  • Meteorology
  • Safety

The Competent Crew course consists of 12 hours of practical and 4 hours of theory. Practical sessions of 4 hours are held over 3 consecutive weekends. The theory sessions of 2 hours are held on week nights.

Please check the current training timetable for dates and times.

The course assumes knowledge equivalent to the Introduction to Sailing Keelboats course. There is no formal assessment for the course. At the completion of the course students will have completed the necessary components for the Competent Crew qualification, however this will not be conferred until an additional 30 hours of experience has been logged.
