History of the row of cotton palms

When you drive into the Club – Do you glance at, or notice the row of Cotton Palms?

These were planted in honour of the Commodores and Fremantle Sailing Club Life Members. The first member honoured was Eileen Coates (wife of Late Hector Coates) who became a Fremantle Sailing Club Member in 1927.

“Day of Trees – We have now done the rounds of the local Primary Schools and have invited back the original school, South Terrace Primary. Different kids and different teachers, and we can show them the trees the school planted in 1983.

A Cotton Palm will be planted by Past Commodore Peter Blaxell in the Commodore’s line of palms, and Bevan Knott and Max Chalmers in the Life Members line.

We also use this occasion for the sections and committees to sponsor and plant memorial trees for deceased esteemed members”.
