As this edition of the BWB reaches members, I have completed just over two months in the new chair. I take this opportunity to thank members and staff for their warm welcome as I settle into my new role. Having managed a yacht club and a golf club in a previous life I feel very much at home at FSC and am looking forward to the challenges ahead.
On a sad note, on Monday 29 May, the Club farewelled Ken Saverimutto, the Club’s Accountant of more than 15 years. Ken has taken up the appointment of the General Manager for the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club and on behalf of the Board of Management, members and staff, I thank Ken for his dedication and loyalty over a long period of time. He will be sadly missed.
On the event front, solid progress is being made in the planning of the National and World Etchell Championships being held at FSC in November. This is one of the largest regattas since the America’s Cup days and the will bring the big sailing names of Dennis Conner, John Bertrand and others to Perth. Close on the heels of the World Etchells is the International Velux 5 Oceans race and we will report on the future editions of the BWB.
Preparations for the AGM are well in hand and members will soon be receiving the AGM information packs. I look forward to seeing as many members as possible at the AGM.
