April field day 2006

East to northeast winds of 10 to 15 knots tending west to southwest 10 to 15 knots around noon attracted five boats to the April Field Day. Anticipated parking problems on the Easter Saturday were avoided by the use of the cones and the day was off to an excellent start.

Conditions were ideal for fishing and fifteen species were weighed in. Ray Polinelli had earlier commented that salmon were prolific and David and Coralie Litster both weighed in excellent fish. Doug won the day with eight species: Baldchin groper, pink snapper (6.22 kg), leatherjacket, skippy, king george, tarwhine, southern barramundi, and sand whiting. He also won the heaviest bag. Other species weighed in included banded sweep, harlequin, goat fish, bonito, samson fish (6.5 kg), herring and breaksea cod.

The fishing contrasted with the recent away competition at Leeman where anglers targeted dhufish and other species were rarely caught. The Mystery Fish was a king george whiting and was won by Adam Gavranic while Gran Hickling agreed it was about time he won a Lucky Boat
