Are You Making The Most Of Your Boat?
By John Hector

Fremantle Sailing Club has some 200 sailing boats but we just don’t see enough sails out on the water.
The enthusiastic and dedicated members who organize the inshore sailing, the offshore racing and the cruising know just now many sailing boats spend most of their time in the harbour. They can only dream of the magnificent spectacle there would be if they could get all of those 200 boats out on the water.

Do you own one of those boats that needs to get out more often? If you do, the activities groups want to know how they can help you to make more of your boat and reap all of the benefits.

You surely don’t need to be reminded of the relaxation; escape from the bustle of life; the sunshine and the exercise that comes with using your boat (It really is true that God doesn’t count the days you spend sailing). But you may not have counted on the comradeship; the skills learned; the experience gained and shared when you participate in the Club’s sailing events.

Surveys of members’ interests do not seem to have identified the magic formula for getting your boat out there.
New activities have been developed and the staff and volunteers have been adding and improving activities and events inline with member requests, but still to small a percentage of boats actually participate.
How can you get more involved and get more out of your boat?

• Visit the clubhouse as you go to your boat

• Read the notice boards and see what’s happening

• Talk to the staff at the sailing office to find out more about the activities

• If there is something different that you’d like to do contact the Rear Commodore Sail

• If you’re not up to racing yet – why not ease you’re way in as a volunteer running the races

Make a contribution to getting those 200 sails out on the water and enjoy your boat and all that the Club can offer you.
