DINGHY SECTION NEWS
BY KEITH CHARLWOOD
What a
magic day Saturday 11 May was. Sunny, 10-12 knots, and the Dockers won!
HUCK SCOTT HEAT 1 & 2
This was a
great success. There were 91 boats on the water from 16 classes from many
different clubs. When you add the 20 optimist bronze onto this, Freo was the
place to be on Saturday. With positive feedback from the sailors
and the return of the sailors who partied down south, these numbers are sure to
grow.
Thanks to
the many volunteers that gave their time, and a special thank you to Lucy, FSC
Sailing and Events Manager and Tristan the Harbour Master for their assistance
leading up to and during the day. The results
are done and will appear on the FSC website this week. Please direct any
suggestions for the next heats directly to me. Thanks to those sailors that
gave me feedback.
YACHTING WA AWARDS NIGHT
FRIDAY 10 MAY
Congratulations to all sailors and supporters
from FSC that where recognized. Junior sailor Annabelle Davies achieved Bronze,
World Champion youth sailor Mark Spearman took out the position of Youth Sailor
of the Year; Carrie Smith and Ella Clark achieved the Female Sailor of the Year
repeating last year’s victory and Tristan Brown took out the Male Sailor of the
Year, as well as the most prestigious award on the night, the Ron Tough
Yachting Foundation Gold Medal for an outstanding contribution to yachting.
Well done Tristan, you are a deserving winner as a sailor and as a role model
and supporter to junior sailors.
On behalf of FSC and Dinghy well done to all
the winners, and to Matthew Wearn, Lachy Gilmour, Tom Blaauw, Jessie Smith,
Tim Castles, Conner Nicholas, all who achieved excellence throughout the year
and earned nominations for these awards.

And finally…..
OUR TRAVELLING INTERNATIONAL SAILORS
You can
follow their progress around the world via the ISAF site. Matthew Wearn is
currently ranked 7 in the Laser world. Luke Elliott is working hard and is now
in the top 100. What’s also fantastic is that of the top seven Laser
sailors in the world four are Australian. We wish you all well on the ISAF
circuit and look forward to your return to FSC.
