IRC and Pot of Gold/Shepherd’s Cup Races

A small fleet took up the challenge to compete in this year’s IRC championship held by Hillarys YC over three days from Friday 24 February to Sunday 25 February. The event consisting of a passage race and W/L’s each day proved challenging to the competing fleet due to the light conditions and high temperatures. The regatta was well run by race committee and Hillarys YC and a shame there were so few yachts that competed.

Daily crew changes were experienced for much of the fleet which helped in the hot weather but made for inconsistent boat structures which was more evident in the Windward Leeward stages.

The Next Factor’s slick performances had them well placed on most of the races with Obsession and Argo keeping the pressure on all the way. Stimulus Package in Div 2 was outperforming Joss on handicap and the results had them well placed up the ladder.

A bigger fleet for the return race to Fremantle with several others making their way to Hillarys for the Pot of Gold and Shepherds Cup races and the final passage race back to Fremantle was enjoyed by all with some close finishes.

In all and despite the smallish fleet there was some great and very close racing on the course which kept the results mathematicians working till the end to establish the eventual overall winner. Provisional IRC Championship results have The Next Factor 1st, Argo 2nd and Stimulus Package 3rd.

Well done to all competitors, volunteers and race organisers.
