What an enjoyable Sundowner for the Bali crews this evening. Informal - a good chance for skippers to get to know each other and enjoy a few nice nibblies put on by the Club.

Race Entry - Wildside has been racing in Western Australia since 1995 and has competed In many Fremantle to Bali races, Darwin Ambon races and local offshore races. She has been successful in winning many of these events and is very often a line honours contender. This year veteran owner and skipper Garth Curran has put together a very experienced team including internationally renowned New Zealand sailmaker and yachtsman Rodney Keenan who will be calling the shots, and local and highly experienced navigator Scott Disley. Walk on the Wildside is an Inglis 58 built in 1988 and has been substantially modernised over the years and is still very competitive to this day

Scarlet Ribbon (a 48 foot Buizen) was purchased in Melbourne in March 2015 by Rob and Maree Northcoat who sailed to her home to Esperance in November of that year. She enjoyed many trips in Port Phillip Bay & the Yarra, before being penned in Bandy Creek Harbour in Esperance. The past 18 months have seen trips around the beautiful islands of the Recherche Archipelago off Esperance and visits to Albany and Busselton to compete in the Geographe Bay Race Week 2016 where her best effort was a third in the final race. Scarlet Ribbon left Esperance for the last time around four weeks ago to make her way to Fremantle for the start of the 2017 Fremantle to Bali Rally in May, with her crew hopping off and on during this passage to complete the prerequisite of 200 nm before the Rally. Scarlet Ribbon will not be returning after the Bali Rally, but will spend the next few years sailing the amazing waters of South East Asia – and then from there – who knows…………… Crew (all from landlocked Kalgoorlie) of Paul, Laurie, Bryce and owners Rob and Maree are getting very excited, with final preparations and meetings over the next couple of weeks. See you all on the start line!

Kraken - Race Division Entry - a mythical sea creature or a fine rum, you choose. Owned by Todd Giraudo and co-skippered by David “Dubbo” White. Kraken is a Jeanneau Sunfast 3600 launched in 2014 and competed fully crewed in 2014 Sydney to Hobart. On returning to Perth, Todd and Dubbo have sailed double-handed in all the Blue Water races for the last few years including Fremantle to Albany, and Fremantle to Geraldton races. A recent dismasting due to equipment failure necessitated a new rig and mainsail. The Fremantle to Bali will be a shake down for Melbourne Osaka that starts in March 2018, being the longest ocean race that starts in Australia and is a double-handed event. Kraken has been fitted with sat comms, watermaker, lithium batteries, hydro generator and a few other power hungry devices for this race. Kraken and The Edge will be the first yachts to compete in the Fremantle to Bali doubled handed. We might be a bit weary by the finish so bring RUM…..
Boat Skippers/Owners - Profile of boats due in asap for official program. Please get to Robbie asap.

Twitch - Race Division Entry - Fremantle to Bali 2017 Twitch is 2006 Beneteau First 44.7. Twitch was purchased by Barry and Betty Walsh from Melbourne, in September 2015. Barry, Todd Walsh, Peter Curran and Mark Loader sailed Twitch across the Bight to Fremantle. Since arriving in Fremantle, Twitch has been very active in the Offshore Racing scene with a mixed bag of results. This is Barry and Betty’s first Freo – Bali race but some of the crew are adding another knot to their belt. After leaving Benoa, Twitch is going to try out cruising by returning to Darwin via some of the picturesque islands of Indonesia. Before returning to Fremantle, the plan at this stage is to be part of the FSC contingent competing in the Dili and Ambon races, but first Bali.

The Fremantle to Bali Ocean Classic will be the first international venture for and the crew are looking forward to a wonderful adventure cruising Indonesian and northern Australian waters. Rally Entry - Thelma Thelma is a steel Van de Stadt 34, launched in 2005. She sails mainly in the wonderful waters of Cockburn Sound, and around Rottnest but occasionally breaks free. This past summer she headed to Busselton for Royal Perth’s Geographe Bay Race Week. Although her racing performance can use some improvement she delights her owner and crew - who are keen to spend more time on the water anyway. Thelma enjoys twilight sails and cruising JAM events.
